Prekindergarten
(4 years old by December 31st)


Prekindergarten pupils attend Monday through Friday. Attending on consecutive days leads to a strong foundation, and the development of organzied, confident and eager to learn children.

Ocean Day School concentrates on building a strong foundation so that later learning is a positive experience-so important to one's self esteem. As children show evidence of readiness, they will be presented with the alphabet letters and their sounds. They may learn that sounds in sequence form words. A math readiness program encompasses classification skills, sets and numbers, numerical writing and the concepts of addition and subtraction. Practical life experiences will help develop self-sufficiency. Gross and fine motor skills are developed through Music, Art and Physical Education activities. These concepts are the core of the Prekindergarten Program.

Prekindergarten students receive progress reports in January and May.

Kindergarten
(5 years old by December 31st)

Ocean Day School believes that today's five year olds are often well advanced upon entering school. This may be attributed to nursery school, educational television or parental stimulation. Ocean Day School has a unique full day program for children who are ready for a more challenging learning experience. A child's Ocean Day School typical school day includes: phonics, mathematics, critical thinking, social studies, reading, and science. The day is carefully balanced with music, physical education, art and lots of "hands on" fun. The successful completion of this important year at Ocean Day School sees the child reading phonetically controlled material, adding and subtracting, telling time, counting money, and most importantly an eagerness to learn more.
