Q. Does ODS provide before-school/after-school childcare?

A. Yes we do! For a nominal rate Ocean Day provides child-care in the mornings starting at 7:00 A.M. and after school until 6:00 P.M. at a nominal rate. Students are supervised by a staff member and participate in a variety of activities including movies, indoor and outdoor games, and homework time.

Q. Does ODS offer a lunch program?

A. Yes we do! A fixed hot lunch menu is available, prepared fresh daily by local restaurants and delivered at the start of the lunch hour. A snack bar serving soup, hot dogs, popcorn, fruit snacks, milk and juices is open every day. Due to danger of burns, we do not make a microwave oven available to children. All food items brought from home must be contained in a lunch box. Positively no soda or candy is permitted. Pre kindergarten and Kindergarten children should bring a nutritious midmorning snack from home.

Q. What is the school policy on uniforms?

A. A flexible mix and match uniform wardrobe for all students includes the parent's choice for Boys: Slacks and walking shorts, long and short sleeved golf shirts, fleeces and pullover sweaters and logo gym wear. Girls: Plaid skirt and jumpers, solid slacks and walking shorts, short and long sleeved golf shirts, peter pan collared shirts, fleeces and pullover sweaters and logo gym wear. Our navy, hunter green and black swatch plaid and khaki separates are available through Flynn & O'Hara by mail or in person. Parents have the choice of coordinating shoe color and leg wear. Sneakers are permitted on gym day only. On gym day, the children, grades K-3, wear their gym clothes to school and remain in their gym clothes for the entire day. Grades 4 - 8, bring their gym clothes to school, and change during lunch/recess.


Q. What types of extracurricular activities are available?


A. Optional instruction in instrumental music in brass, woodwind and string instruments in Grades 3-8 is available. Participation in the school band is by invitation of the Band Director. Club offerings vary by season. There are ten week bowling, hip-hop and aerobics clubs as well as art classes in the Fall and Spring. ODS also provides a Walking club in the fall and spring, weather permitting. There is a nominal fee for the clubs to cover expenses.

The ODS Drama Club presents a musical every spring. Practices begin in January and the performances run for two nights in mid April. In 2007, the students will perform "101 Dalmations and more ."


Q. Does Ocean Day have transportation?

A. No.. Students living in districtsl are reimbursed $834.00 per year per child by their local public school district provided that the child is five by October 1st. Parents have been successful in forming carpools.

Q. Is there opportunity for parents to be involved?


A. Absolutely! We are partners in your child's education. Parents are helping in school every day in many different ways. They are in the library, the snack bar, at special events, book fairs, special contests and fundraisers, running after school clubs and clinics, helping our teachers and office staff, serving as advisors and sharing their time and talents with our parent-teacher advisory board and administration.

Q. Where is Ocean Day School located?

A. We are located in Lakewood, New Jersey across from Lake Carasaljo on North Lake Drive and next to Georgian Court University. For the 2007-2008 School Year, Ocean Day School will relocate to West Veterans Highway, Jackson
